North Korea's State-Sanctioned Haircuts
Dictator Kim Jong-un Issues Strict Hair Regulations
28 Approved Hairstyles for Men and Women
The North Korean government has released a guide to the state-sanctioned haircuts, and there are 28 to choose from—18 for women and 10 for men. This strict hair regulation is just the latest in a series of bizarre orders from Dictator Kim Jong-un.
The guide, which was released on February 28, 2013, includes photos of each hairstyle, along with a description of the cut. Men's hairstyles are all short and conservative, while women's hairstyles are more varied, but still relatively short.
According to the guide, women are allowed to choose one of 18 hairstyles, which include bobs, pixie cuts, and perms. Men, on the other hand, have only 10 options to choose from, which include short back and sides, crew cuts, and buzz cuts.
It's unclear why the North Korean government has decided to regulate hairstyles. However, it's possible that the government is trying to control how its citizens look and express themselves.
The new hair regulations have been met with mixed reactions. Some North Koreans have welcomed the new rules, saying that they will help to create a more orderly and disciplined society. Others, however, have criticized the regulations, calling them an infringement on personal freedom.
