Hobbit Ancestors Were Even Smaller
A New Discovery
Scientists studying the fossils of an early human species discovered on an Indonesian island 20 years ago have uncovered new evidence suggesting that the species, known as hobbits, had even smaller ancestors.
Digging Deeper
The original hobbit fossils, which date back to between 60,000 and 100,000 years ago, revealed that the species stood at around 3 feet tall. The new research, published in the journal Nature, suggests that their ancestors may have been closer to 2 feet tall, making them among the smallest human species ever discovered.
